Introduction

The story Gravity is written by David Leavitt who was born in the year 1961 in the Pittsburgh. He grew up in the Northern California. He is the author of various stories and is known to write stories which are very near to the human life. He was also awarded various awards and compliments on his writing skills. The story Gravity is also very near to the human life and represents the difficulties and hardships that are faced by the person suffering from the AIDS. It represents the treatment what the AIDS patient have to face from the people from different aspect of life.

Main Character

The story's main character is Theo who is suffering from Aids. The story starts from Theo making a choice between the drugs of which one will help in saving his eye sight and a drug which will make him to live. Theo chooses the drug that will help him in keeping his eye sight working and will not make him blind. So to make him see clearly he stopped the pills that would help him live rather started to take the injections which will help in clearing his vision. In a few days with the help of the injections he was able to see clearly. When now he can see clearly he remembered all the problems he had to face while he was in New York to see a show when he was only twelve and his mother helping him by lending her glasses to Theo so that he could see better.

Theo moved with his mother in New Jersey as he was not in a good condition to live alone. He had a plastic tube implanted with in him which was cleaned by the nurse four times a day. Theo's mother Sylvia had already witnessed the death of her mother. Sylvia wanted to make Theo better and this is the reason why she used to urge Theo to go out with him which Theo used to turn down every time.

Finally she got the reason to take Theo out as it was Edward's engagement and they should go out to get a gift for them. Theo however agreed to it. Sylvia reminded Theo that how Edward's mother Bibi gifted Theo a shabby pencil case on his graduation. But they decided to give Edward's fiancé a nice gift as Sylvia liked her.

After parking the car Sylvia landed a hand to Theo to help him lift himself but he was already trying hoisting himself. After getting out of the car they both entered in a gift shop which was full of porcelain statues and gift boxes. A gray haired man greeted Sylvia but ignored Theo and the same happened when another man greeted Sylvia and had a rough face when he saw Theo. Sylvia introduced Theo to the people but they didn't greet Theo well.
