The Management of External Business Environment Influence on Staff Motivation and Retention



Abstract

Workplace relationships are associations built within the context of an individual's work environment Career motivation is referencing the “relationship needs of leadership mentoring and career satisfaction. Once a firm develops a strategy and a plan to communication its strategic objectives to the work force, what motivational sources will drive employees to seek out the company's strategy? A successful management knows how to motivate employees to use all their talents and abilities, and not just do your job, what encouragement to use and how to remove the employee from his stagnant. Motivation is explained as the energy that encourages work-related behaviour and influences one's work style, direction, intensity and duration. Job performance and satisfaction may result from effective motivation. Self-efficacy has been shown to be a reliable factor in determining levels of motivation with specific application to employee performance and satisfaction. Employees with supervisors who are not supportive tend most of the times not to be satisfied with their job. Employee retention is a process in which the employees are encouraged to remain with the organization for maximum period of time or until the completion of the defined project. Employee retention is beneficial for the organization as well as the employee.

Introduction

The aim of this paper is to discuss the impact and influence external business environment has on the staff motivation and retention. The paper discusses the role of management to enhance and create motivation and retention towards the organization, with respect to the changes occurred in external business environment. Workplace relationships are associations built within the context of an individual's work environment (Maslow, 1954). The associations are developed among peers, with individuals' respective manager(s), and with other members and management of the organization. The ability to establish and nurture interconnectedness and relationships were identified as the most vital of leadership practices. Motivation is “the ability to change behaviour. It is a drive that compels one to act because human behaviour is directed toward some goal. Motivation is intrinsic (internal); it comes from within based on personal interests, desires, and need for fulfilment. However, extrinsic (external) factors such as rewards, praise, and promotions also influence motivation (Sachau 2007, p311)”.
