Introduction

As the globalization has been a trending phenomenon, the most common language of communication has been English. English is a global language which is spoken in many countries like Australia, U.K., Canada, U.S.A. and countries of Middle - East. Although the language is immensely popular but still many students who migrate from different parts of world to the countries USA, UK, Australia and Canada still do face a challenge in adopting English as a bilingual language. Similarly many of the native speakers have very good command upon spoken English but the content of their debate, their grammar and vocabulary is not to the standards to absorb the studies of higher level. In order to overcome the language barrier faced by overseas students and native speakers with weak command many of the universities provide with short courses to improve the English Language Learning skills of the students. A similar program has been launched by our university which provides the students with special program to improve English Language known as the ESP.

The program has been designed for the students who will be joining the undergraduate programs in the upcoming sessions. This program will be catering an age group of 16 years and above as mostly the students have completed their high schools by that age. The students who will be offered this program have chosen Biology as their majors at high school level. The program is an English Language Development Program. The idea behind choosing this particular program is to cater mainly those students who are from the overseas and are intending to appear for undergraduate programs from the coming semester. Although the students have a decent command upon English language as they are appearing for the programs after clearing their IELTS and TOEFL tests but to increase their proficiency, vocabulary and confidence upon English Language it has been made mandatory.

Before the beginning of the course the students are expected to be at early intermediate level but by the end of the course the expected outcome is to bring the level of the students to at least Intermediate level. The expected growth is to rise to only one level because the time frame for conducting the course is very short.

The learning theory upon which the students learning outcome is based upon the strategies developed by Rubin and is directly contributing to the theory of learning. However, the core theory of learning outcome in this case is not only to develop the interpersonal communication skills of the students but to increase their proficiency to such an extent that they easily understand the lecture delivered by the lecturer.
