Is hiring ethical people the most important factor involved in creating and sustaining an ethical organization?

Introduction

Businesses these days focus only on getting the right product, and for that they believe in hiring good ethical people to maintain the right culture and sustaining an ethical organization. Since employees are key assets of every organization and it their duty to maintain the ambience and decorum of the organization. Every organization is formed when there are individuals from different cultures and backgrounds are combined together on a same platform and work for the pre defined goals and objectives. Ethics are the values and principles used by the individuals to manage his organization's activities and decisions. It is a set of principles that is used in organization's policies, decisions, programs and for the business. The ethical behaviour practiced by the managers and the employees becomes the culture of an organization. Business ethics is basically an opportunity for the firm's to differentiate themselves from other companies.

Code of ethics varies from organization to organization and it includes different policies, principles and guidelines which decide the way how individuals should behave and work at the workplace. Developing and maintaining ethical culture at a work place starts from the top management level and comes down throughout the organization. Managers are the role model for employees. Ethical culture is about a character, principles and performance of an individual. When employee's sees good values being practiced by their co-workers, management people on a daily basis, they will do the same and therefore a strong ethical culture will protect the business physically, financially and overall it promote a good image of the organization. In order to have an ethical culture at an organization, it is important to set the rules, regulations and policies and that should be implemented from the start of hiring process. Growth and good performance by an organization solely depends upon a number of factors, Ethics in one of them. There are many things that an organization can do in their daily activities to build an ethical workplace, from creating a code to making it come alive in everything you do and to build ethical culture organizations must focus on hiring employees that have ethical background.

When an organization hires an employee, that individual brings not only his job expertise and skills but also his ethics to work. Since one of the major organization's prized assets is its reputation and hiring an employee with unethical background and value system can create disaster in the organization. The term ethics is different according to every author and researcher, it is actually a critical analysis of the action of workforce at any organization to decide whether the organization is meeting the two major criteria of “Truth and justice”.
