CHAPTER 1: INTRODUCTION
Introduction
The chapter provides an idea and overview of the entire dissertation. It includes the background of the study providing basic and necessary information about the concern that has been highlighted and addressed in this study. Furthermore, the chapter contains description of the problem that is identified and focused throughout the project. Lastly, the chapter defines the objectives and goals of the research that defines what the project has analyzed and result in.
Area of the Study
This section defines the main focus of the study and explains the area of the research that is supply chain management. Supply Chain Management is associated with the products and information flow between the members working in supply chain management and people linked with the process. Supply Chain Management is the management of set of interconnected activities performed within a particular business, involved in providing a service or producing a product based on the requirements of the end-user in the supply chain (Lynch, 2009). Supply chain involves process starting from the collection and storage of raw material to the production of finished goods, from the point of origin to the point of consumption (Mentzer, DeWitt, Keebler, & Smith, 2001). There are a number of innovations in technology helping the organizations in coordinating the activities for the appropriate management of supply chain processes.
Background of the Research
The success of the business is dependent on the relationship between the firm and its partners and the quality and efficiency of the business processes throughout the extended supply chain management activities. Supply chain disruptions, manufacturing delays, product returns, consumer quality and safety issues, and government regulations are some of the growing concerns for the members of supply chain management process. The success of the business is dependent on the relationship between the firm and its partners and the quality and efficiency of the business processes throughout the extended supply chain management activities.
This section explained the background of the study, explaining the main aspect of research. For this research the focus of this research was on disruption and supply chain management failures. Therefore, the section served as a base/ foundation leading the research towards the main problem. If explained and discussed more specifically, the failures generally occur during any kind of radical transformation of supply chain system. It further explained the disruptions concept in one line or two, just providing a reference for the research. Furthermore, the section covered the points which described ...
