Exercise and nutritious diet and medicine have been a great subject of debate for many researchers among older people. An important role is played by genetic factors in disease accumulation and expression. Many evidences have revealed that exercise and nutrition have more benefits over medicines among the older ones. Exercise has been considered as effective as medication among older patients in reducing diseases without causing advrse effects of medication.

The continued exercise and nutritious diet reduces the adverse effects of disease and reduces the possibility that disorder will return. The greatest disorder among the older patients is found to be depression. Exercise greatly reduces the symptoms of depression. Statistically significant and comparable improvement has been noticed among the older patients who continued to do exercise rather than the use of medications to cure the disorders. The continued exercise and use of nutritious diet is effective in achieving much smaller risk of relapsing.

Exercise is certainly good for our body, not only because it maintains our body but it also reduces the risks of coronary heart disease and stroke and other related factors, along with maintaining of diabetes, blood pressure and bone density (Ashford, Biddle, Goudas, 1993). There is no doubt that medication can be used to cure these disorders among older patients, but the risks involving the use of these medications are greater than the exercise and use of nutrients. Exercise has been recommended as the best alternative for medicines to help manage disorders without increasing side effects. In fact, the older patients who have been in the exercise group are more likely to recover partially or fully than those who are in the medication group.

The use of exercise in treatment of anxiety, weight loss management, and issues of self esteem is really important. The maintenance of cognitive or mental functioning or other serious mental health issues has emerged to be effective through exercise and nutrients. For many treatment programs, exercise has been recommended by many doctors and health care practitioners.

The practice of regular physical activity is a priority in public health as prevention of chronic degenerative diseases, especially in the Third Age. The main benefits are scientifically evidenced control of body weight, decreased body fat, increased muscle mass, muscle strength, flexibility and bone density, increase in stroke volume, pulmonary ventilation, maximum oxygen consumption, decreased heart rate and blood pressure and improves lipid profile, there is also improved self-concept, self-esteem, body image and decreased stress, anxiety, insomnia, drug consumption and improved cognitive function and socialization. At this stage of life are given preference under the impact aerobic activities like walking, swimming, dancing, hydro or bicycle. Strength training is essential and can be prescribed with some care even in individuals with hypertension or cardiovascular problems (McLaughlin, Kaluzny, 2007).
