Introduction

They pose no health benefit and are harmful in many ways girls and women. By involving the removal of normal, healthy genital tissue or damaging these tissues, they hinder the natural functioning of the female body (Dorkenoo, 2006). FGM is a fundamental violation of the rights of girls. It is a discriminatory practice that violates the right to equal opportunities, health, combating violence, injury, abuse, torture and cruel, inhuman and degrading treatment, the right to protection practices harmful traditional and the right to decide about their own reproduction. Part A: Assessment/literature review

FGM causes irreparable damage. Can cause death of the child by hemorrhagic collapse or collapse due to severe neurogenic pain and trauma and acute infections and septicemia. Many girls enter a state of collapse induced by intense pain, psychological trauma and exhaustion from screaming. Other effects may be a poor healing, formation of abscesses and cysts; an overgrowth of scar tissue, urinary tract infections, painful intercourse, increasing the susceptibility to HIV infection / AIDS, hepatitis and other blood diseases, reproductive tract infections, inflammatory diseases of the pelvic area, infertility; painful periods, chronic urinary tract obstruction or bladder stones, urinary incontinence, difficult deliveries, and an increased risk of bleeding and infection during childbirth (Aldeeb, 2001).

Facts and figures

Female genital mutilation (FGM) includes procedures that intentionally and non-medical reasons alter or injure female genital organs.

These procedures do not provide any benefit to the health of women and girls.

Can cause severe bleeding and problems urinating, and later can cause cysts, infections, infertility, birth complications and increased risk of neonatal death.

Some 140 million women and girls are now the consequences of FGM.

In most cases practiced in children, sometime between infancy and age 15.

It is estimated that in Africa there are 92 million women and girls over 10 who have undergone FGM (African Women's Organization, 2005).

FGM is a violation of human rights of women and girls.

FGM and Diabetes

FGM affects internal system of female in which she might get exposed to diabetes type II this kind of surgery is as dangerous as surgery of diabetes type I. the survival of female depends upon the level of glucose in the female. If, the glucose level is higher in the body female have better chances to survive and vice versa. But if the glucose level is high this infection gets dangerous for the female.

Cultural, Religious and Social

The causes of FGM include a mix of cultural, religious and social within families and communities.

FGM is often considered a necessary part of raising a child and a way to prepare for adulthood and marriage.
