Introduction

The course “Fundamentals of Information Technology” is an interesting course. The course material is really good and relevant. The course does not only improve the students understanding on the subject of managing information technology, but it also groom the practical skills of the students in the field of IT. This course has been really helpful for me to understand the real purpose of information technology and its application in real life and in different industries of economy (Laudon & Laudon, 2006). The course Fundamentals of Information Technology gears the specialties within the students towards the practical implementation of the IT.

Personal Understandings

With the help of understanding the flow of information and its uses within the organization, one becomes able to practically implement the concepts and core understandings. Through this session and course, I learnt the development, design, implementation and installation of all types of computers network and information system. Studying and now finishing this course give me the sense of career satisfaction, personal accomplishment and endless possibilities. Before starting the course, student's basic perception about the information technology was just only that it is just managing the information through a computer. The study and learning of the entire course enables the student to understand the whole network and flow of information from different points to make a decision. Information technology and management collaborate to make decisions for achieving the competitive advantage within the organization. The skills of students regarding the Information Technology and its usage was at beginning level, now after studying the course one become able to design, install, develop and implement different types of networks and information systems. I personally, after studying the course become confident about my career. It gives me the sense of accomplishment that I am equipped with the knowledge of Information Technology Management that will give me the competitive edge on other candidate for a job (Schwalbe, 2010). The knowledge enables me to strive for more. After studying the course I become more curious and creative in the field of information technology.

Effects of Information Technology on Value Chain and Competitive Forces

The competitive forces models and the value chain have wide applicability to the business management, which does not only focus upon the effects of information technology. Nevertheless, literature about IT has gripped such models, which shows that information technology is pervasive throughout the research. The basis of this research is that the value chain and the competitive forces model proposed by Porter may serve as a source of test variable in the information technology- performance relationship in a firm (Caruso & Kvavik, 2005).
