Introduction

Genetically Modified Organisms are those organisms whose genetic material altered by means of genetic engineering techniques. Those organisms which had been genetically modified comprises of micro-organisms like yeast and bacteria, insects fish, plants and mammals. In orders words, they are the main sources of genetically modified foods and these are generally exploited in scientific research and for producing goods excluding foods (Nelson, 2012).

The purpose of this paper is to discuss Economic issue and culture considerations with respect of Genetically Modified Organisms. These two areas are further divided in to sub parts which also an important part of Genetically Modified Organisms in current era.

Economic issue

As production and development of technology has not been isolated scientific activity instead, it is entrenched in and has been influenced through social, economic and political conditions. This embrace accurate modern biotechnology like genetic engineering, which is a technology that influence living organism in order to generate novel genetically modified crops, livestock, food, drugs/ vaccines and things related to it (Koch, 2012).

In many countries, genetic engineering has been observed as a method through which they have enhanced their food security and has also reduced the industrialization impact that lessens the agriculture land availability. But at the same time, this has turn out to be a great thread for local companies. This will be discussed in the following sections (European Communities, n.d).

GMO production has proven to be a great threat to the local companies

Genetically Modified Organisms as we know has solved problems of many people. Currently, many of the GMOs has been developed or grown in industrialized countries and it is expected that developed countries would be almost certainly importing them either to grow foods or to feed or for any process. Furthermore, there has been no enough evidence in order to determine whether they will be advantageous in resolving the problem for developing countries. Therefore, previous studies like Green Revolution could be utilized as a measure for analyzing the GMO production on the local companies (Koch, Askeland, 2012).

When GMO production increase in the country such as in developing countries, local industries would be force to close their operations since, company will be incurring high cost and lower revenues. Hence, this might impact on country's GDP with higher imports and lower exports. Furthermore, increasing production of GMO might become a huge thread for local companies in near future (Antoniou, Robinson, Fagan, 2012).

Thread increases when Genetically Modified Organisms started producing consumer product raw material. This has reduced local companies overall sales. In United States, 10% of sugar is imported from other countries while 90% is extracted from domestics' sugar sources such as sugar beet and sugarcane. From the sugar grown within the country, American half of the sugar is extracted from sugarcane and half through sugar beet (Young, 2012).
