Introduction

From the last twenty years, Geronimo was the most disparage and the most feared person of the Southwest but when he became old he was a freak attraction at exhibitions and shows. He had a damaging and misunderstood career which was characterized by the problems of the contemptuous Apache culture who was trying hard for its survival in the modern world (Adams & Alexander, pp.12-14).

Early Life Geronimo was born in the month of June in the year 1829 at No-doyohn Canon at the bank of the Gila River. He was named by his parents as Goyathlay which means the person who yawns and his name was later on changed to Geronimo and this name was extracted from the sound which horrified the soldiers of Mexico. His initial life was full of difficult religious cultures and ceremonies. Good luck charms were placed on his cradle for his safety and long life and a ceremony was held when he wore his first moccasins. All of his relatives made him prepare for Apache life and taught him about the initial stories of the people and the stories of the supernatural and big spirits of the mountains which were hidden in cave of their homeland. Geronimo came to know about the religious instructions and observations and he was also educated about Usen who a noble God (Brown, pp.12-21). Usen was not concerned about the little arguments among the people. His main role was to give life and protection to the people. When the God Usen created the Apaches then he also made their homes in the west region and provided them with fruits, grains and games according to their requirement. Moreover, he provided them with the environment, shelter and clothes. According to the religious teachings, he was asked to become loving, self sufficient and to respect and devotion to the homeland. The promise of devotion was taken in an oath ceremony. Geronimo became older in the small period of peace and it was an uncommon interval in which the unceasing wars among the apache and Mexican people were not occurring. In the times of peace, the Apache people paced high emphasize on the learning of fighting skills. The childhood games of Geronimo were hiding, hunting, shooting and tracking. The necessary survival skills were also taught them by games (Stockel & Henrietta, pp.153-176). The stories of conquests were also told to Geronimo about the invasion of Mahko who was his grandfather and the chief of Apache. He was famous because of his strength, size and courage during fight. Geronimo also had the extra ordinary skills and courage like his grand father. He was lean and tall, powerful and speedy (Clum & Philip, pp.32-36).
