What sort of ethical framework(s) do we need to tackle 'global' poverty?

Introduction

The onset of global poverty is since a very long time and everyday there are millions who die of poverty related illness. In countries like Africa, south of Sahara and South East Asia, there are billions and specially children who are the poor victims of this moral dilemma (Elka, M. 2009, p.1). Previously, the west considered that there are limited resources due to which some parts of the world have to face miserable conditions brought on by poverty. It was in the 21stcentury; due to globalization that the realization started that there should be a structural change to eliminate poverty. It is further believed that there are sufficient economic provisions for all and nobody has to die of dirty water, illness and starvation.

This paper determines the ethical aspects of addressing poverty and to promote thinking on other issues related with it. The scholars try to determine from an ethical point of view the reasons that could prevent the gap between well off and worst off. However, it is hard to get ethical solutions in a flawed world we live in (Margaret, P. 2002).

Ethical framework for Global Poverty

In the context of ethical framework, it is the thought of addressing the issue of poverty is what matters. The efforts made should be intentional in allocating the resources in the right manner to counter poverty in a society. According to the theory of Classic utilitarianism, the outcome and the end result is what matters. This theory has a huge influence and gives guidance to the many economists in their work. The moral right of bringing a good in happiness and decline in pain due to poverty are all the outcomes that determine the effects that were brought about by change. In order to address the issue of global poverty there should be commitment and acceptance of responsibilities in a global forum (Nigel, D. 2002, p. 3). Although, many steps have been taken in erasing poverty there has been an increase in poverty in the world (World Bank, 2008, p.2).

Those who recognize this issue and contribute through charity are unclear of the extent of their responsibilities. The overall roll of the individuals, social institutions and states is unclear to them. Although, there is a strong realization of helping the poor universally, it is a complex task to reduce poverty in different geographic and economic states around the world. The concepts of global justice and human rights in an ethical framework outline how we can have a system that helps distribution of resources worldwide (Pogge, 1994, p.3). The major issue is to define individuals who live with a lot with those with too little as this is not easily answered. Therefore, the major problem is that the global system in which we live is unjust towards poor in totality.

The poor should get the rights for inclusion and participate in work life and ...
