Is Global Warming A Hoax? Is It Being Exaggerated?

Introduction

The global warming controversy involves public disagreements over various scientific, political, and moral issues, with significant implications for humanity. Participants in the controversy employ opposing scientific claims concerning the climate, as well as competing definitions of science, and different rhetorical attempts to redraw or close off the boundaries of legitimate debate. Recent developments have also revealed the power of a new online medium in the controversy that has enabled “climate skeptics” to challenge traditional scientific boundaries, and provided the means for all sides to engage with a broader public on the topic (Tatalovich & Daynes, 2010). The global warming controversy demonstrates the range of possibilities in the establishment of global warming expertise, as has been constructed by a number of prominent public actors without traditional scientific credentials.

Global Warming Is Just a Hoax'

The history of global warming, with the risk of global catastrophe, is a hoax, according to a documentary that aired on the British network Channel 4. It is a mockery of the "inconvenient truth" preached by Al Gore in his film (McKibben, 2011). Just when, after twenty years of debate, the scientific community seemed to have agreed to recognize the very serious risk to the planet, the British media decided to say the opposite.

The controversial documentary is titled "The Great Global Warming Swindle" and is signed by the director Martin Durkin, a figure that environmentalists see as the wool over the eyes (McKibben, 2011). The film comes after the decision of Environment Minister David Miliband to deliver a copy of the documentary Oscar winner Al Gore all schools in the country. At this point, the debate has become political in the English papers. The newspaper "Daily Mail" and "Telegraph" publish almost daily articles of experts who are skeptical on the actual extent of the risk.

The same documentary champions of both sides, the former U.S. Vice-President and Durkin, are also criticized for their behavior in the field of ecology. In fact last week, Al Gore had been branded as a hypocrite, after a newspaper reported that heating of your home spends 15 thousand dollars a year, twenty times what the average American family spends.

Martin Durkin, meanwhile, rose to prominence in the news for a television series on the environment, entitled "Against Nature", condemned by the independent commission on the control of television programming because it was heavily edited four interviews (Huseman, 2010), distorting the statements of respondents, forcing the network to a humiliating statement of apology.

According to the director, it also exaggerates in saying that the Arctic glaciers are melting: during the geological history of Earth, the ice has been extended from time to time and withdrawn without human intervention. Al Gore, however, considers the glaciers as evidence for the future and says that since the seventies the extent and thickness of the ice caps "fell at breakneck speed" (Tatalovich & Daynes, ...
