Introduction

The article Slowey highlights the issues faced by the aboriginal people residing in the various regions of Canada. The main objective of the research article is to highlight the contemporary socio economic factors, which influence these people. In the context of the contemporary social global environment, the dynamics of the business environment have changed drastically. In this perspective the role of the governments has changed in this new environment. In the advent of the 21st century, the globalization forces have caused the countries to become independent in nature. The countries are no longer limited by their respective national attributes, such as the local population or the resources. These countries now have a cosmopolitan based society, in which there exist individuals from arioso socio cultural backgrounds. The primary misconception that this research article clears is that in the contemporary global environment the negative social phenomenons such as colonialism do not exist.

The example of the Canadian population is taken to understand this social phenomenon where the aboriginal segment faces the new form of colonialism. This colonialism type is not the same as the traditional government based forms of suppression; rather it is a new form of economic colonialism (Slowey, 2001). In this scenario it is the corporate stakeholders that influence the socio economic forces, which have an impact on certain minorities. Even though the economic environment in eth majority of the western countries is based on the principle of free trade and non discrimination; the certain minorities of individuals suffer due to the economic restrictions. The minority groups which have a lower socio economic status in the overall population would be subjected to discrimination under this environment. Self government is defined as the ability of the overall population to develop its own government system, in which there is socio economic autonomy. However the status of the certain minorities and the low socio economic groups impact the dynamic of such an environment.

The author suggests that in the contemporary self regulate socio cultural environment, here will exist certain groups of individuals that would suffer systematically. Colonialism still exists even in the developed countries, as the corporate sector only provides benefits for a certain population segment. The authors have highlighted this phenomenon in the Canadian environment, where the aboriginal population is suffering by the corporate self governed socio cultural national environment.

The authors have mentioned that even though Canada is no longer a colonial entity, under the control of the British; certain segments of the population still live under these adverse conditions.
