Introduction

School violence is an increasing and big threat to children, parents, teachers, and for entire nation as whole with the passage of time (Ander, 2009). Today school security has become a hot topic specifically after the adverse start of gun violence in schools of U.S. thus in this paper I am going to discuss gun violence in schools of U.S from the sociological perspective along with possible solution to control gun violence in schools. the purpose of writing this paper is to let readers know about the importance of controlling gun violence in school by understanding the sociological factors involved in raising gun violence in schools.

Literature Review

According to Police Executive Research Forum, 2012 in United States, gun violence has become second leading cause of injury deaths. more than 2000 Americans under the age of 20 are being killed each year because of gun violence. there are countless children and young ones that are not being injured or killed because of gun violence but they are the survivors but scared by the effects of such violence on schools (Behrman, 2002). The school violence has been a biggest threat that is increasing in the present year. The violence is a traumatic event where the children suffer from the violence taken place in schools. The gun violence needs to be controlled in school for maintaining peace. The younger generations are well aware of the fact that gun violence in the school has now become a very common problem (IANSA, 2007). The major responsibilities lie on teachers and parent to stop their children who are getting involved in serious crimes. It can be possible by applying some simple methods. Parent needs to support their children in all the ways when the children are suffering from any kind of mental tensions and disturbance.

Gun violence is one of the most debated issues in American schools. Bearing weapons is not a new practice in America because the Second Amendment of the American constitution protects it (Bilchik, 1996). The right to own a firearm legally is the constitutional right of every law-abiding citizen. It has been proved repeatedly that ownership of firearms can deter crimes. There have been several campaigns by groups to enforce gun control, which present death statistics in countries, which have enforced these restrictions. According to an article by The Future of Children, (2002), By enforcing gun control, the sale and purchase of guns will shift to the black market, where criminals will benefit only and law-abiding citizens will not have any access to them. Thus, children are facing issues in schools, the teachers' needs to take care of them, giving them enough space to talk with them freely and this will make them aware of the problems that the kids are facing with.
