Introduction

Incident relating to the hazardous substance exposure are unfortunate even which occur anytime, but main concentration should be on this that how the respondents should behave and what they should do on such situations, their response matter a lot as they can prevent a situation from being worse. This article focuses hazardous substance exposure occurred in Graniteville related to chlorine exposure in Graniteville, South Carolina on January 6, 2005A dislocated track switch as a result of which there was a collision between a train and a huge tanker containing chlorine. Chlorine gas leaked from the tank, due to this collision. 90 tons of chlorine released and dispersed into the air, as a result of which 9 people killed on the spot, 8 of which died from asphyxiation. The ninth one occurred in the hospital within a day. 520 people visited the local emergency departments also primary care offices received a number of different symptoms of chlorine inhalation. 5400 people out of 7000 excavated from the area (Jones et.al, 2010). Statement The basic purpose of this article is to highlight responsibilities of emergency responders. The article will look into transport issues as well as excavation problems in such incidents. Secondly, it will discuss the role of transportation professional in these cases. If the government will provide proper knowledge to people about hazardous materials, and their handling then such disasters can be prevented from happening.
