Part 1

Analyzing the work place

In this part of the paper first of all differences between groups and teams will be explained, then the next part will be giving a brief understanding regarding various theories in accordance to the need of the study. This will lead efforts towards the proper direction where the theories and their findings will lead the supervisor towards deciding that what and how the theories can be applied in order to benefit the workplace in a more practical manner.

Differentiating the groups and teams

Team is basically a group of people who are all working together for fulfillment of any particular goal or purpose. Teams can be set for various purposes in educational, professional and other such settings. They are simply people who are determined for a same cause which all of them have common determination (Schermerhorn et al, 2005).

On the other hand group are people who are working together for completing a portion but not the entire task. It is a group of individuals who are doing stuff like watching a movie or sport together, but they are not the real doers they are the observers (Schermerhorn et al, 2005).

In past, there have been many discussions about the issue that, Are the teams fad or not? But this is something like an essential part to be held these days. Overall it can be stated that team is a more specific term a team is a group of people, but all groups are not actually a team. Group is a more rich term than team which is a set of more determined people.

Tuckman's Team Development Model

Tuckman's model basically explains that when the teams are more developed a better level of maturity as well the ability, establishment of relations and the leadership style is changed by the leader. Starting it with a style of a bit dictatorship, then moving towards the coaching, then doing participation and almost detaching at last. After coming at this point any team might be producing also a descendant leader and then the previous leader can lead towards developing a new team.

Following is the five stage progression which was at start a four staged one and later it became five staged after being realized:

Step - 1

This is the forming stage in this stage the leadership guidance and direction is really essential. Individual roles and responsibilities are a bit unclear at this level and the leaders are required to give a substantial amount of time to answer them.
