Abstract

This paper reflects the perception that whether healthcare is a right or just a privilege for the humanity. Healthcare is a fundamental need and human right. There are millions of Americans who are still uninsured. Those people who are poverty stricken in the world suffer from worst and poorest health status. There are many factors that are responsible for acquiring better healthcare. These factors include education, employment, race and income. For those who cannot access proper healthcare by themselves should be provided with funds in order to provide good healthcare to them. The question arises that whether healthcare is right, or it's just a privilege. Accessing healthcare considered being a right according to the western thought. Every human being is valuable morally and ethically. Thus, it is the right of every human being to access healthcare and breathe in a healthy environment.

Thesis statement

Healthcare is a right for all human and it is not a privilege because “a healthy man has thousand wishes, a sick man has only one”.

Introduction

Healthcare system in the United States is weakening as the time is passing by. There are almost 47 million people in America who are lacking health insurance (Papadimos, 2007). These 47 million people are unable to access healthcare because they are restricted. Millions of people are uninsured. Health care costs are increasing (Papadimos, 2007). The major problem for the lack of healthcare insurance is the economic problem. There are two fundamental reasons that are liable to lack of healthcare race and socioeconomic status (Papadimos, 2007). When a person does not have good and strong socioeconomic status, it affects an apt insurance status which becomes responsible for affecting health status. For those people who cannot afford a good heath status should be provided with healthcare access that will assist them in having good medical and health care (Papadimos, 2007). The question that arises is that whether access to health care is a privilege or right. I deem that access to health care is not a privilege rather it is a human right (Papadimos, 2007).

It can be claimed that access to healthcare should be given freely to every individual. There should not be any obstacle in providing proper health care to every individual (Papadimos, 2007).

Healthcare Coverage

The private sector in the United States plays the major role in providing health care. Accessing the healthcare should be worldwide. Healthcare should be a human right for every individual, and it means that clinics, hospitals, services of doctors and medicines must be available and accessible with good quality for every individual on justifiable basis regardless of the race, caste and religion (http://www.nesri.org). In order to provide convenience to every individual it is necessary that healthcare must be comprehensive and affordable and should be physically accessible when and where it is needed.
