Introduction

Organizational structure plays an important role in the functioning of the organization. The structure provides the framework for the operations of the company by granting authority, establishing measures of control and job responsibilities. Different type of organizations has established modified versions of organizational structures as was proposed by the early theorist of the organizational structures. The management scholars like Fredrick Taylor, Henry Fayol and Max Weber stressed on the importance of structure and stated that structure is inevitable to the requirements of the organization. The productivity of the company is dependent upon the way it is managed. The empowerment of the employees can result in the increase in profitability of the company depending upon the type of organization. It same empowerment without control can lead to the destruction of company. The rules and regulation governing the company are shaped according to the nature of business and the type of employees it is employing. We don't agree with the argument as rigidity cannot enable the people to work together. The business environment has changes and it now requires adaptability, flexibility, delegation of authority and empowerment to the lowest level to generate sustainable profits. Creative nature jobs require flexibility in rules where as the production environment requires rigid rules. The entrepreneurial setups requires one to the carry out multiple works and job descriptions however in the mass production environment, job specialization improves productivity and quality. We will be studying the Hierarchical structure and will review the elements of this structure. We will review if the authority in an organization should be spread across a hierarchy and should decrease down the hierarchy. We will evaluate if the rules in the organization should be centralized or should they be decentralized. We will see if the hierarchism should have institutionalized roles and advise our arguments for it.

Although it incorporates the chain of command very well by specifying the authority of each level, it can allow the managers to misuse their authority, take and grant favors and can carry out corruption which may get detected very late over the years. By that time the damage have already been done. Contemporary organizations focused on the production of creative work may utilize a hierarchical structure but will not enforce a hierarchy of command.

The organization responds differently working under different organizational structures. Hierarchy of command enables the company to set the authority among people and grant them privileges to ensure the smooth working of the organization. This hierarchy structures enables the staff and employees to report in a systematic manner (Godwyn & Gittell, 2011). The junior staff is required to report to their immediate ...
