Answer 1). Why should we have a separate databases and a data warehouse?

Separate data bases and data warehouse is one of the most important management and business development tool which is object-oriented, integrated and time-dependent data set. Databases and data warehouse are not only aimed at the automation of business processes, but also on the content analysis of information. However, it is intended to support decision-making to its users in the upper and middle management organizations, analysts, representatives of entities of the financial analysis, marketing and other departments. Data bases and data warehouse contains historical data as it is a time-dependent data set. The operational sources are the latest values (for example, the current name of the client or his physical address) then the data repository will contain all of the background, indicating a period when some data was valid. Databases and data warehouse can gather in a single, at least from a user perspective, all information that may be the need of manager in making decisions. The data sources for the data warehouse are primarily data from disparate transactional and accounting information systems based on different relational databases that serve the everyday business activities. Sources of relevant information can be as newspapers, radio, television, Internet and any others. It is assumed that the data shall have been previously given to the same standards, free from contradictions, structured and consolidated with the required level of detail. That is why companies use databases and data warehouses as it helps the businesses in many ways. Similarly, school the high school can also attain benefits from having databases and data warehouse.

The major advantage of databases and data warehouse includes replacing the existing information and analytical systems or is a superset of them. Repository allows the process of analyzing own performance of commercial activities and those of competitors in their relationship with internal and external factors which is another effective advantage of data warehouse. Sales analysis helps to identify trends, plan sales by product, customers, and entities based on sales results, build mechanisms to encourage the client and product divisions. Through the use of a data warehouse, there can be an integrated view of the results of sales and a manager can take this information into service during the formation of plans (Date, 2003).

Answer 2). Why don't we just have one large database for all our data, both current and historical?

Database in any organizations is most precious asset. Every organization that possesses data has concerns regarding its safety and privacy; organizations want the critical data to be saved from getting attacked by the malicious outside and inside attackers. Since, the nature of data queries and data saved is in a huge volume the security measures taken for data protection are not adequate.
