Analyze the consequences and characteristics of the Cold War period. Why was the containment of communism so important and what were some examples that emerged from US and Soviet policy?

Consequences of the Cold War period

The consequences of the Cold War period were such that as much as a population of 60 million people had lost their lives along with an additional 6 million Jews were tortured. The policies adopted during this time were such that the world was divided into two blocks, socialist and capitalist, after the Cold War had begun. The territorial or political map of Europe was revised. Regarding the economy of Europe, it can be said that Europe was devastated, no communications, no infrastructure, no land suitable for cultivation, without industries and almost empty. Diplomatic strategies were adopted. Creation of the UN (United Nations) to promote peace, reach agreements and resolve conflicts by peaceful means, seeking unity among all peoples of the world (Gaddis, Lewis, 2005).

Characteristics of the Cold War period

The Second World War was a completely different character from the last. Perfecting the art motorized: planes, tanks, cars, etc. Provide to the combatant elements of great destructive power. Trench warfare was abandoned by the war of movement. Planes and tanks advanced on the city destroying everything. More than 25 million people died in the war. Bombs, long-range rockets were used by the Germans to attack London and, last, came the atomic bomb. The fight ended with the future of humanity clouded because of its enormous destructive power. Although constantly anxious voices calling for the elimination of these weapons, the great powers USA, USSR and Britain never withdrew on themand kept on testing and using them (Gaddis, Lewis, 2005).
