Holocaust comparison to the Genocide of Rwanda

The crime of Genocide is considered as an international crime and all those who are found guilty of committing this crime may be punished by the International Criminal Court (ICC). As per the definition of genocide, it involves either one or all of the following:

Assassinating individuals of a particular group

Inflicting life threatening or fatal injury to individuals of a particular group

Intentionally causing mental injury to individuals of a particular group in whole or in part

Applying various methods and procedures to control birth rate

Transferring young adults from one group to another group by force

The Rwandans used guns and machetes as a method of killing, while the Nazis used a sophisticated gas chamber to kill people. This research paper will focus over all the major difference among both the killings of the Holocaust and the Genocide of Rwanda. The Nazis treated very harshly and killed people with a sophisticated gas and caused a huge number of killing which lasted for 3 to 4 years and killed more than 6 million people. While the Genocide of Rwanda killed people with guns and machetes which lasted for almost 100 days and killed almost 800,000 people (Hilberg, 1992).

Both incidents have caused thousands of lives to be lost and dehumanized; and both were carried out against a race or a group of people with similar traits, in this case, against the Jews and against the Tutsis. Events leading up to the incident represent turbulent times for both countries in both the economic and the political sense. Racial issues arose because of the feelings of superiority felt by one group over the other, and of one race clinging to their xenophobia. As a result, such resentment spilled over and created violent and fatal repercussions against the more 'inferior race' who were also used as scapegoats for the problems of the times. Only with the coordinated management of these incidents by the concerned countries of the world can future outbreaks of violence such as this be prevented.

Media has played a major role in the Genocide of Rwanda where racial superiority has produced violence and hatred among people. The impact has heavily infected the whole country to kill teachers, students, children, and others who tried to escape were became refugees. After this genocide, businesses and agriculture were totally destroyed because of which poverty increased with a very high proportion. This affected the education field on the whole (Hilberg, 1992).

Racial superiority has traditionally been an issue for various countries at one common or mutual problem in their history, but none worse than that displayed by the Nazis over the Jews and by the Tutsis over the Hutus in Rwanda.
