How Antivirus Software Works

Introduction

Antivirus software has been with us for several years, since the beginning of the first systems. At a time when there was no Internet, it did not bother the first hackers to write viruses. Currently, the daily number of new pests is counted in the hundreds of thousands. Therefore it is very difficult to guard against more or less harmful virus without having antivirus software. To date, the new viruses are constantly emerging, and they are distributed through the Internet, with a very high speed. Therefore, the detection of malicious programs only to find their unique code fragments (signatures that are stored in the databases of Antivirus software) is ineffective (Sukwong et al. 2011). Most modern antivirus programs use intelligent search methods to remove these viruses. The damage caused by these virus are can be very varied, from just a small nuisance, a funny message, to cause the loss of large amounts of data, computer lock, stealing information confidential or even cause irreparable damage to the systems. It has been a case of viruses that have managed entire networks collapse causing the loss of all data on them. Fortunately, due to the growing importance of information and computers have in society today, there are companies dedicated to software development called security.

One of the most known and used is the type of program called antivirus, which is based on existing viruses to detect, and if found, to prevent infecting computer or remove them if they have done. The antivirus is an application almost essential, and currently, since when surfing the Internet are prone to be infected both browse web pages, and the download and run files from the network. An antivirus program acts as a vaccine permanently on your computer. It has the function to filter all incoming foreign body or exits via email or network computer (Hsu et al. 2012). To identify a virus, the virus makes a comparison between the file and got a library of information about the various types of viruses. It is an analysis of the genetic code of the virus. If the code is hit, the threat is blocked. This virus information library needs to be constantly updated through the internet. Otherwise, the virus will not be prepared to deal with the new digital pests that arise every day.
