INTRODUCTION

Background

About 4000 years ago, Chinese explored the considerable influence of nature on their lives. They watched the interplay of sky, earth and sea. They saw how the wind tends to carry itself around the river and takes the form of energy which later on tends to drive that river. They found that energy in different places, different heights can result or decipher differ meanings depending upon the intensity which can be either low or high. It is all because of these observations that the Chinese were able to develop or construct a deep understanding of the hidden forces of nature, and its impact on the human Life and its well being. They used this knowledge in their daily lives, such as the choice of their home, its setting, directions and several other factors were taken on board. It helped them in a greater way to achieve their goals and the people who were earlier termed as nomadic looking to be settled found places to live in harmonious place that offered appropriate support (Hale, 2000).

Experts are of the opinion that it was the feeling of security which was rendered as the most important factor by the individuals who opted for the phenomenon of Feng Shui. Thus, nomads attracted a hedge around the settlement, which the springing power of the sea offered. In this way ancient's people created a sheltered Place, which was nourished by the vital energy of the sea and the sky. The phenomenon of Feng Shui might be new to the western world, but it has established its roots in the eastern cultures. Moreover, the roots of similar practices can be found in the ancient civilizations such as Greeks, Arabs, Egyptians, etc. It is believed that the knowledge relating to Feng Shui is usually passed from one generation to the other, either by a teacher-pupil relationship, or through family lines. As the world has grown to take the shape of a global village, Chinese philosophy too has managed to escape from China or neighboring counties to the western world. Today, Feng Shui has evolved from an art to a trend, thus today it is being utilized majorly for the home constructions.
