Motivation and Employee Performance

A good theoretical basis can help practice and avoid chasing fads or magic formulas that propose new tools or approaches an uncertain outcome. Theories help to reflect on what motivates and how this occurs.  The motivation expresses' all the reasons that compel us to act, which are related to our various goals and interests and which in turn are driven by cognitive and emotional processes (Fina, 2009). In terms of management is the activity to stimulate individuals in behavior that will produce results. In general, people act to satisfy their needs that are to say that they are encouraged to act in order to obtain rewards such as to meet the needs. Maslow, for example, has tried to define a hierarchy of five levels of need. Going from top to bottom of the hierarchy are: physiological needs (hunger, thirst, sleep etc.).Needs of belonging (identification with the group, network relations, approval of others, etc.), esteem needs (self-confidence, independence, status, self-respect); needs of self-actualization (achievement of what one feels capable of becoming) (Fina, 2009).

Leadership and Its Impact

The word leadership, being wrongly used frequently in the literature and in everyday life, often ends up becoming devoid of its real meaning. The exercise of leadership, and the role of the leader, is often confused with other concepts such as power, charisma, rank or even authority; however the role of a leader encompasses dimensions, activities and responsibilities that go far beyond common sense. According to Peter Drucker, one of the responsibilities of a leader is to create a culture throughout the organization through his character and his examples of conduct, which will serve as a model to be followed by all the other people in an organization.
