Task 1 Understand the difference between personnel management and human resource management

Personnel management and human resource management?

Although both these terms are related to each other and sometimes they being used interchangeably, but there is a difference between them. While the organizations that are larger in scales, they need to be precise in their judgment about the quantity and the quality of the human resources that is needed to be employed. The Personnel System motivates the employs by providing them with the higher benefits and compensation. The Human Resource System might employ the complete reciprocal approach.

Personnel Management

Personnel managements have been defined as trying to make a workforce that is satisfied. This can be done by bringing in use the organizational resources. It is very important part of the management when we look at the relationships that exist in the organization as well the employees who are working at the moment. It is being also put together as planning, organizing, compensating and trying to retain people with the intention of making them contribute towards the goals (Cowling & Mailer, 2012, p. 133).

Human Resource Management

Human resource management is the management of the workforce of the organization or Human resources. It looks after the processes of attracting, selecting, assess, train and compensate the employee (Cowling & Mailer, 2012, p. 133). It also makes sure that the labor laws and legislations are being complied. Human Resource Management also serves as a mediator between the employ unions and the company (Cowling & Mailer, 2012, p. 133). Examples of Organizations that use Personnel Management

Watts industries in UK are one of the prime examples of the organization that uses the traditional system of personnel management. It does not have a “formal” department for the Human Resource management, and when we try to look into the HR structure of the organization. (Cowling & Mailer, 2012, p. 133) There are personnel managers that are responsible for looking after the processes, there is not much integration of departments with the Personnel Management. The sole responsibility of personnel management is that it has to comply with the Laws and the Legislations that are happening (Cowling & Mailer, 2012, p. 133). The system of Personnel Management thus seems to be prevailing in the organizations that have very limited span of operations (Cowling & Mailer, 2012, p. 133). If one looks at all the smaller industrial units that are operating in UK, most of them seem to have the approach of personnel management adopted by them (Renwick, 2003, p.280).

It is one of the more popular approaches that are being used in the corporations that are expanding and they have very large workforces. Organizations with several business units are also looking to adopt that (Renwick, 2003, p.280).
