Human resource planning's prime role identifies the competencies an organization needs in order to achieve its business objectives and in the subsequent phase obtains the workforce they need. The key points in human resource planning include:

A design process that defines the organization's objectives and its proficiencies employees need to attain those objectives.

A plan must be designed in such a way that develop necessary aptitudes from within the organization or an alternate to it, organization hire new employees in order to fill those gaps.

A continuous implementation and time to time effective evaluation with a feedback channel of planning and strategies in order to fulfill the human resource needs is mandatory.

In a more specialized term human resource planning is a process of identification of the current human capital along with the future human resource needs within the organization in order to achieve its objectives.
