Introduction

It is believed that psychology is the science of behavior and mental processes, but in the organizational psychology, it is the science of understanding and explaining the psychology of the workplace. It is about conducting a scientific research on all issues at the workplace to find out the solutions. The topics widely covered in this field are organizational culture, personality traits of the employees, job criteria, how the employees are hired and fired, how they are appraised for performance, personal development, training, job satisfaction and work, time and stress management (Ancona, and Nadler,1998).

Description of an Organization

Global Air is an Irish airline and the European's only low-cost carrier with headquarter at Dublin. As a result of the deregulation of the European aviation industry, the airline enjoyed a rapid expansion in 1997. The company operates 300 Boeing 737-800 aircraft making 1,600 daily flights from more than fifty bases, connecting 180 destinations in thirty countries. With a twenty- nine year safety record and the 9000 highly skilled employees, the company is planning to induct 175 new aircrafts in its fleet by the year 2018 (Chapple, and Sayles, 1961).

From setting mission, legal compliance, governance and management to financing and community relations-all are the core activities of the company's CEO.

The Global Air knows very much that which knowledge, skills, abilities and other characteristics are important for job analysis. For this reason, Global Air has a team of psychologists that collect data about the high and low profile jobs, such job prerequisites. In the light of this information collected, decisions are made as whom to hire, what kind of training is needed for the professional development of CEO, and how to set the key performance indicators.

Global air uses three behaviors towards job analysis. They include:

Job-oriented approach focuses on the abilities make the fundamentals of the job.

Person-oriented Approach focuses on the skills other than office procedures, such as the ability to communicate and willingness to work beyond duty calls.

Personality-oriented Approach emphasizes on the personality traits that are related to the success of the job.

Global Air is making use of the third approach as it is adopted by the organizations which are dedicated to providing outstanding customer services and customer satisfaction is the most important factor in their business strategies (Dutton and Ashford, 1993).
