Patent

A patent is an intellectual right of a property that is approved by the country to an inventor of anything, it may include machine, product etc. so that others can be restricted from selling, remaking or using the invention that is previously invented by someone, throughout that country. It also restricts others to import any invention to his country for a specific time of the invention when the patent is issued or granted.

Patent are of three types. Utility patents, Design patents and Plant patents. Utility patent is granted to those who invent any new product, machine, and article of manufacture or any innovated and helpful enhancement thereof. Design patents are granted to those who invents new, innovated design for any machine, article etc. Plant patents are granted to those who make and discover and asexually reproduces any new kind of plant.

Edison patents

The Edison's first patent was an Electrographic Vote-Recorder. Other patent includes printing telegraphs and its apparatus, Governors for Electro-motors, other recording instruments etc were the famous patents of Thomas Edison (Baker, 1911).

Life History and contribution to engineering innovations

Thomas Edison was one of the poor students in his time. When one of his teacher called him a 'Addled', his dishearten and furious mother told him to leave the school and guided him to continue his studies at home. Thomas Edison said in his interview that his mother was his making. He said she inspired him, she was so real and true and due to which he was motivated that he has to live for his mother and I should not disappoint my mother. At very initial time of this age, Thomas Edison started to show interest in different mechanical equipments and chemical experiments (Anonymous, 2002).
