The public no longer just a passive role on specific aspects of the technical inspection of the institutions about the company, but is also involved in business programs. The environmental management systems have a setting similar in type to what has already been extensively tested in the field of Quality Assurance. The similarity between Quality Management and Management of Environmental Problems is not accidental: many companies have long regarded the management of environmental problems as a fundamental aspect of Corporate Quality. A company cannot in fact think of working in terms of Quality Assurance and thus the market as credible and reliable if a provider is unable to provide appropriate responses, as well as its customers, to other stakeholders such as institutions ( laws and regulations), the Public (environment and image), its Employees (Security). For companies certified to the new environmental standards brings many advantages and benefits unlimited. The certification to ISO 14001 enhances the public image and avoids the risk of exposure to criminal liability management (Boiral, 2007). ISO 14000 is a set of voluntary international standards, aimed at the effective environmental management in organizations. It involves the development of specific requirements of the Environmental Management Systems, Environmental Audit, the Eco-Labelling and Life Cycle of Products, Services and Processes within the aspirations of the organizations.

In addition, this qualification can significantly improve the competitiveness, especially when the company faces in foreign markets are particularly sensitive to these issues, while the customer environmental qualification ensures that the company is committed to delivering effective, and not just generic, environmental protection. In some manufacturing sectors, the environmental certification is a prerequisite for market entry. This could be particularly important in European Union countries. The certification may become a prerequisite for contract customers, such as the Department of Energy of the United States of America requires that contractors are certified according to ISO 14001 since 1997.
