Justice and International community and changing nature of "Hegemonic Realism"

Introduction

The changing nature of Hegemonic realism and stability theory deals with the issues of international relations. The theory mainly focuses on the fact that international system will stay stable if there is one dominant power in the world. He may be called as hegemon. Thus, a decline in the stability of the hegemon will create instability of the entire international system. The main tasks of a a hegemon are that he excercises his power through diplomatic presence, coercion and such attempts on his part are known as hegemony. Therefore, this means the ability to single handedly make the rules and arrangements on international forums which can create political and economic changes for others. A major part of this society is dealing with issues in their international associations. After World War II there was a major shift in the analysis of the international situation. First people who influenced political factors were the Americans. Aristotle and Machiavelli unearthed (rationalist and amoral exercise of power) and attempted the study of politics as a science, namely the Political Science. After World War II United States played a critical role acquiring responsibilities in world affairs (Osman, 2006).

Discussion

The American school of political science says that even domestic problems are linked to the international problems. These responsibilities were later designated to United Nations which meant that there was a genuine interest in both political and academic sectors of international affairs. We should keep in mind that in the US, this was a legal tradition, therefore we could study international relations from their and others point of view as well. Europeans are more influenced by historical and legal analysis. Today twenty first century could not ignore the ruling bureaucracy along with responsibility of preparing the foreign policy and maintaining international relations. Countries in the world today are facing rapid changes and have an increasing impact on the traditional views on fundamental questions of foreign policy and international relations (Nester, 2010). Through research, it was seen that hegemony was divided into two schools of thought. The first one is the realist school and the second one is the systemic school. These schools of thoughts can be further subdivided into different theories.

The discipline of International Relations focuses mainly to locate primary patterns of behavior that follow in international settings of the world to interact with each other. Despite the centrality of the concept of realism and hegemony to any aspect of International Relation discipline, it seems to lack analytical framework for studying realism and hegemony. Unlike the general depictions of most domestic politics, international relations are typically viewed as less institutionalized and rule-governed, however, this idea is contested by many other schools of thought.
