Kinship, Ritual and Sex in an Amazonian Tribe

Introduction

Amazonian tribe is situated in a gracious and beautiful environment, filled with luscious forestry and mountains. It was really hard to find where the tribe was situated. After reaching there we realized that this tribe was not at all afraid of us and both male and females they're kept on doing their daily routine. We were really amazed that the quantity of males and females in this tribe was far more than we expected to be. I also observed that the females in the tribe were really low in quantity as compared to males. Later on after interviewing with one of the tribes man namely Oniwngu, we were told that most of the females in these tribes stay at home with their children parents or in-laws and serve their duties (ksuanth.wetpaint.com, 2010).

Oniwngu was the only person who voluntarily helped us in understanding the way of Amazonians. We also thanked the chief of the tribe who was really short in height and in his early 40s. On the other hand, Oniwngu is in his early twenties. It was really hard to understand the Amazonian language but we did manage to sort this issue out thanks to our translator. The following pages will deal with the questions we asked from Oniwngu you and his response to them. Due to the limitation of time we kept our questioning to only the main concerns, like the rituals, kinship and sexual preaching's in the Amazonian tribe.

Discussion

After settling down in the nearby camp of Amazonian Tribe, we began asking some common question to Oniwngu and how he feels with the rituals he has to follow with other Amazonians.

His thoughts on the sexual, kinship and rituals are discussed below.

He said that sexual behavior in his tribes helps them in controlling jealousy and anger through their life. After the age of 13, the girls of the tribe experience their first sexual encounter with a boy of at least 10years or above. After the first sexual intercourse between the boy and girls, they both are considered as a couple automatically and are considered as each other husband and wife (jean G. Crocker, 2003).

However, before getting married the girls in the village is indulged into having many sexual partners until they get pregnant and eventually become a mother of their child. During their sexual relationships with the other males in the tribe, the girls first sexual partner and future husband does not object on the girl for having other sexual partners. He then stated that these rules help in controlling the jealousy of both males and females throughout the tribe. He also stated that there are yearly ceremonies conducted in which within the tribe in which the girls that are not a mother, have sexual intercourse with the males of the ...
