Ku Klux Klan

Introduction

Although Forrest ordered the dissolution of the Klan in 1869 as it believed it had deviated from their original purposes, crimes and violence with the signing of the Klan continued, mostly whites were acquitted in cases of lynching (Wade, 2007, p. 78). The Ku Klux Klan was imposed in the years of Reconstruction and its influence was that blacks had to wait nearly a century until the movement of Martin Luther King, for their rights. After more than four decades of silence, re-emerged strongly in 1915, reaching its peak around the twenties, when he was 15 percent of the population covered (Bartoletti, 2010, p. 52).

Although researchers agree that the organization did not emerge as a terrorist, but as a secret society with vague objectives, similar to the Masonic, develop it, it was a racist subtext. Every year, an increase of power and the number of organizations increased the number of victims and the degree of brutality (Davis, Wood & Moore, 2004, p. 56). Was a complex information network for murder and arson. Group number, depending on the operation, from 10 to 500 people, acted very quickly and did not leave witnesses. Killings have become violent, the victims were hanged, drowned, mutilated (Bartoletti, 2010, p. 38). In 1880 a member of the House of Representatives, H. Wilson claimed that 130,000 people were killed only for their political activities. There were not just brute force. For example, Gibbs, one of the radicals in Florida, gave Arsenal a real house, surrounded by guards. But it did not help - Gibbs had been poisoned (Heinrichs, 2003, p. 87).

At first the members of the KKK were limited to make fun: night excursions on horseback through the town, covered with white sheets and pillowcases, like a hood, with holes for eyes and nose terrorizing blacks, fleeing terrified at the sight believing that these were ghostly apparitions. But then argued that its actions would be very effective "give blacks a lesson" (MacLean, 2004, p. 75).

Between 1867 after being a disorganized group that interrupted religious services of the black community or they snatched their weapons, the Klan took a step forward in your organization. Under the leadership of George Gordon, was planned a more structured, with ranges and tests to belong to it (Bartoletti, 2010, p. 94). Despite Gordon's plan, the Klan organizations in each state is not organized around a core group but remained independent (Lay, 2005, p. 14). Cells became more violent Klan and its activities were the acts of intimidation, especially against blacks, teachers and civil defense, between his acts of violence were from visits ...
