Introduction

The paper focuses on the practice of labeling students in a school and the effects it has on the students, parents, government and society as a whole. Labeling of students in the school system is a common practice, and we will analyze its effects in this paper.

In the aim is to improve the quality of education, the main efforts in developing countries are generally aimed at reducing the gap caused by cultural and socioeconomic differences. The focus tends to be how to improve the performance and quality of learning in those students not making adequate progress in the school system.

However, an educational system that addresses the needs of all students should also address those with special talents. The issue of education of academically talented children has become important because if these children are not adequately addressed the risk of limiting their development potential, especially those gifted children who come from disadvantaged socioeconomic sectors which can result in significant costs to personal and social level.

Labeling Students in School System

Some researchers claim that labeling in the school system has some positive effects to label a child as gifted or special student. Indirectly, to appoint someone as gifted and produce an internal reward increases self-confidence which might have positive effects on the self-esteem of a student. On the other hand, most students with special needs need to be labeled in the most positive aspect and consider them for opportunities for social and personal development.
