Background

It has been noticed by the parents that with the increase of the schedule of the vaccination in America, there is also an increase in the children suffering from autism and other allergies of deadly nature just after their children receive vaccination. In the vaccination process, children may suffer from the seizure because of fever after they get vaccinations. But, this is considered as the normal part of the process of vaccination. According to research the average age in which children are diagnosed with autism is 2 years old. By this age, most of the children have received 16 shots of the vaccination within the five visits (judiburton.hubpages.com, 2012).

Autism and Vaccination

The rate of diagnosis of children suffering from autism has increased over the period of time. This increase in rate of the autism diagnosis is driven by diagnostic criteria that have been broadened and more awareness has boost up the concept that phenomenon like vaccines can become the cause of autism. There is a large number of theories that show putative association between vaccination and autism. These links are formed on the basis of measles-mumps-rubella MMR vaccine, vaccinations that have thimerosal and other types of vaccines that are currently administered. Both the epidemiological and biological studies that have been conducted over the period of time show no support to these claims and links of vaccination and autism (Jeffery and Paul, 2009).

Measles-Mumps-Rubella (MMR)

It was on 28th February in the year 1998, a British gastroenterologist Andrew Wakefield and his fellows published a paper in The Lancet. According to this paper, there were eight children among whom the symptoms of autism were observed just after one month of receiving MMR vaccines. It was revealed on the endoscopy that all of these eight children was suffering from gastrointestinal symptoms and signs. these children also had lymphoid nodular hyperplasia. Wakefield presented the idea that as a result of these vaccines intestinal inflammation occur which in turn causes translocation of usually non-permeable peptides to the bloodstream and subsequently to the brain, and that is there the development process gets affected (Jeffrey and Paul, 2009).

The publication of Wakefield et al paper has caused a great deal of fear among parents about getting their child vaccinated despite the fact that there were no supporting data to prove an association between MMR vaccine and autism. The paper and the idea that was presented by Wakefield et al also lacked the necessary biological mechanism. In order to address the parental fears a number of epidemiologic studies were conducted. Fortunately, there was availability of different features of vaccination programs that were there on very large scale. These large scale vaccination programs allowed the opportunities for the researchers to conduct descriptive and observational studies. This also allowed conducting study and research with large number of subjects. Conducting studies and research with large number of subjects derive more substantial and statistical power. As a result of the ...
