Introduction

Leadership is a critical to advancing the profession of nursing. All the levels of an organization has requires a strong nursing leadership that established a health working environment and it is particularly more crucial at the point of care where majority of front line staff provide patient care. Leadership skills are also important to develop health work place at where current and future nurses will need guidance and monitoring. American Association of College of Nursing indicates that leadership of nursing should be available because it plays a crucial role that help to give nurses a voice in the development of patient care (Jellison et.al, 2004). It also helps to create a deep satisfaction of organizational culture at the unit by engaging staff in the development of shared values in work.

First, I would like to thanks my professor who allows me a chance to discuss my favorite nursing leadership personality. This paper aims to discuss my favorite personality and nursing Leader, Beth Houlahan. I will also discuss her leadership qualities that inspired me allot and I am more willing to perform those in my professional career.

Beth Houlahan Personal, Educational and Occupational Background

She is a senior Vice President of patient care service and Chief Nursing Officer at University of Wisconsin Hospital in 2011. Beth has comes to UW hospital with having a broad experience in both academic as well as community hospitals. Her accomplishment involved patient care development and council structure that promoted a shared decision making (Gantz, 2010). She also involved in implementing a fully automate pharmacy that facilitate the deployment of clinical pharmacists to inpatient floors. She directly involved helping a strategic as well as business plan through using principle of leans and creating a nurse residency program. Her core measure is to practice an evidence based practice.

Beth Educational background directly influence on her leadership skills through which she is able to influence others. Houlahan received Bachelor Degree of Nursing (BSN) from Mount Mercy College, her Masters Degree of Nursing (MSN) from University of Iowa College and completed a fellowship from the Wharton School from University of Pennsylvania, Philadelphia (Gantz, 2010). Houlahan predominate her career that has been in the development and management of the women and primary care outpatient practices in both academic and private settings.

Beth previous experience is also important element that admires her followers. She served as a Senior Vice President Care Services. For Mercy Medical centre she served as Chief Nursing. She is also having an administrative oversight for clinical, operational and leadership for nursing at various health care system (Gantz, 2010). Furthermore, she served as a Clinical Director for the Family Care Centre at Iowa's Hospital including Internal Medicine, Family practice and Pediatrics Clinics.

Leadership Qualities of Beth Houlahan
