Abstract

The research report conducted on the topic of Logistics and Supply Chain management will try to find out in detail the use of supply chain management and logistics system, the global and historic background of this management system. Supply Chain Management or Logistics need a lot of planning from the firms supply chain managers because inability to plan will create problems for the business. The main aim of the research report is to identify and try to investigate the organizational approach that is needed, in order to apply the supply chain management or logistics system. Many sources of information like books, journal and articles will be used to support the findings about the planning and implementation that is needed in order to use supply chain management and logistics to achieve the goal of customer satisfaction. A company's example will also be used to understand the workings of the supply chain management system and how it will help in achieving the customer satisfaction. The research report will state the background and definitions of supply chain management to enable the readers understand about what is supply chain management system and logistics, then a detailed literature review by using books, journals and research studies to support the findings about how planning and implementation of supply chain management and logistics play a role in creating customer satisfaction.

Introduction

According to the research of Miles and Snow, (2007) that supply chain has evolved as a central point in many organizations today. They described supply chain in three periods, in the first period the emphasis of many firms was to make supply chain operation efficient, in the second period the effectiveness of the firms was the focus of many firms and in the third decade or recent times firms are trying to find out ways to use effectiveness and efficiency to achieve growth in the market. Today the world has become a global village and people are doing businesses all over the world. In the older days people do not have many things to plan out but as the businesses are increasing day by day there are different dimensions that need to be focused in order to avoid the weaknesses and make your business strong. According to Bowersox, (2011, pp.4), the managers in an organizations are witnessing two things first is the revolution of supply chain management and second is the rebirth of logistics. Supply Chain Management is the collaboration different many firms in order to gain power to have a good strategic position and increase the efficiency of their operations. Each firm that adopts supply chain has its own strategy behind it and each firm acknowledge the dependency and collaboration between each other. Supply Chain management creates a linkage between the trading organizations and the customers.
