ABSTRACT

In this longitudinal study we try to explore the concept of the role of Muslim women in a holistic context. The main focus of the research is on changing role of British Muslim women from the year 199 to 2011. The research also analyses many problems faced by Muslim women in British society and tries to gauge its effect on the overall society. Finally the research describes various factors which are responsible for increasing role of Muslim women in Britain and tries to describe the overall effect of Muslim women on British society. The research was conducted using various methods. Secondary data collection method was used to obtain data for literature review and case studies relevant to the study. Primary research methodology was used to obtain quantitative and qualitative data. Surveys were conducted from 300 Muslim women to understand the problems faced by Muslim women in British society. Furthermore, Interviews and focus group discussions were conducted to gain an in-depth understanding of the problems of Muslim women and to find solutions for the same. In addition to this, interviews and focus group discussions also helped in obtaining suggestions to improve active involvement of Muslim women in British Society, especially in David Cameron's Big Society Vision
