Introduction

Martin was born in New York (New York City), in a family of Puerto Rican Demetrio Arroyo (Demetrio Arroyo) and his wife, dark-skinned native of Charleston, South Carolina (Charleston, South Carolina), Washington, Lucille (Lucille Washington). Demetrio was a mechanic at the local shipyards, and pretty well earned - which made it possible to deal with children Lucille. The funds allowed acquainting children with extensive cultural stratum of New York life, the family regularly attended museum exhibitions, concerts and theatrical performances (Arnove, 36-55). In the early 40's Martin several times led to the Broadway show, that's when the girl first became interested in acting career. Martina Arroyo, is one of the great forgotten among the sopranos of the second half of the twentieth century, marginalized by the record companies-not as Gencer - especially Verdi, inevitably have to resort to pirate records to listen to this today is not much of a problem as it was twenty years ago, such is the proliferation of live recordings today.
