Introduction

The film chosen for the review is latest movie by the name of 'Get the Gringo' released in the year 2012 and directed by Adrian Grunberg. The movie is regarding a criminal (Mel Gibson) an American National who steals a great amount of cash from a renowned criminal. However, the interesting part is that Mel Gibson is viewed by the audience as the monster character (Villain) until he meets a young boy in the prison where he is detained; whereas, he is not the monster, but another prisoner who is a Mexican Crime Boss. This paper reviews the movie, as a critique would have commented. In addition to this, the paper focuses on the issues of monstrosity and focus on how the monsters are portrayed in the movie.

Plot of the movie 'Get the Gringo'

Mel Gibson (the gringo) is detained in a detention center in Mexico for illegally crossing the border in a car with two bags full of cash, a handgun, and a dead body of his partner. The time before he (Mel Gibson) was arrested by the Mexican Border Patrol, he was being pursued by the United States' Border Police of the U.S- Mexico Border. This is because the criminal boss from whom both the gringo and his partner stole money was from United States; therefore, the U.S law enforcement agencies wanted to arrest them. However, after crash landing their car within the Mexican territory the gringo is arrested and is detained in a prison that had a huge mafia of Mexican criminals in it. The warden of that prison was working under the directives of a Mexican Criminal Boss (also a prisoner of that prisoner) who was the uncrowned king of this prison. The tragedy with this Mexican Criminal Boss (Javi) is that he had a bad liver along with a rare blood group. Javi had previously undergone through a liver transplant by a donor who was killed by Javi as he needed his liver. The interesting part is that Javi had captured the family (wife and son) of that donor in the same prison as the doctors had told him that he would need another transplant, because this liver (of the previous donor) was not strong enough to bear with his (Javi's) habitual alcohol drinking tendency. During the gringo's stay at the prison, he meets the kid (Kevin Hernandez) and realizes that the people running the prison treat him differently in way that showed that he is very special. However, after three to four encounters with that kid the gringo becomes aware of the fact that the kid's liver is needed by the Mexican Crime Boss (Javi). Meanwhile, Javi also gets to know that the gringo had a huge amount of money when he was arrested by the border patrol, and that the corrupt law enforcement officers arrested him, nut kept the money with themselves.
