Introduction

Recently our world has turned into a multi racial community due to the changing demographics and intense globalization. The workplace is now becoming a cluster of people from diverse races and culture and in recent times the presence of women in the workplace has also increased due to diversity. Nowadays, in our workplace, we witness workforce from different cultures, nationalities, generation and gender working together in an organization. However it is the responsibility of Human Resource Management to establish and implement policies and practices to develop a working environment that appeal to the diverse workforce of the organization. A well managed and collaborative diverse workforce can bring out better business and individual performance and gauge higher employee engagement.

Diversity in workplace

People differ in age, gender, mental and physical abilities, social background and religious beliefs. So, it is important to identify and manage these differences in people to create a healthy environment at the workplace (Kirton, & Greene, 2010). The process which is used to manage the diversified human force is known as diversity management. Diversity management is referred to as the process of creating an environment where employees' differences are valued and they feel comfortable to interact with others from different culture, religion, race and background (Dickie, 2008).

HRM's capability to identify cultural diversity and its prospective disadvantages and advantages describes an organization's strategy in managing diversity. Since Hp is an international learning and innovative organization, its key source to nurture diversity is through cultural synergy.
