Mobile Computing and Social Networking

Introduction

Technological development has brought innovation, ease and convenience in the lives of people. Most prominently technological development has greatly benefited the field of healthcare. It is because of the reason that, technology has allowed the healthcare industry to perform their tasks by using wireless networks or technologies. Therefore, these technological advancements has also enabled the care givers and utilize devices like social networks, pervasive sensing technologies and personal cellular devices, in order to provide healthcare facilities to their patients. It is observed that, there are various advantages and disadvantages of using technology of mobile computing, in order to monitor the health conditions of the patients. In addition to this, it is also observed that, there are various security concerns that are related to the transmission of patient's medical information over the wireless networks (Gao, et.al., 2006). All the security concerns are addressed in the proceeding discussion. This study also incorporates the brief answers of the given questions. All the provided answers may greatly help the reader in understanding the role in wireless technology in the field of healthcare industry.

Answer: 1

Vital signs are considered as the most important features of one's health conditions. These may include blood pressure, temperature, breathing rate and heart beat. Therefore, vital signs can be understood as the prime indicators of individual's overall health condition. In the current era, technology has enabled people to take their respiratory rates, oxygen levels, glucose levels, blood pressure, heart rate and temperature, via mobile technology. In the previous era, people used to go to doctor's office or hospitals, in order to have these tests done. Afterwards, the healthcare providers used to measure all the vital signs and then input the information into the charts. In that situation, human error was one of the greatest factors that may affect the integrity of patient's health conditions (Gao, et.al., 2006).

Technological implementation has enabled the healthcare providers to have accurate and correct information of patient's medical history. Therefore, the use wireless technology and smart phones has enabled the patients to monitor or measure vital signs and upload that data to the information systems of their healthcare providers. Furthermore, wireless technologies have also allowed the patients to do videoconferencing with their doctors, by using their smart phones. It is also observed that, alike patients, healthcare organizations are also using innovative and advanced technologies like blood pressure equipments, oxygen sensors ventilators of EKG etc. (Arshad, et.al., 2003).

Advantages of Using Mobile Computing Technology to Monitor Patients

Wireless or mobile computing technologies enable the healthcare providers and the patients to communicate with each other directly. It is often observed that, mobile technology enables the people to communicate with each other regardless of the location and time. In the field of healthcare, this feature may greatly enhance the integrity and quality of healthcare conditions. In the current era, it is observed that, communication between doctors and nurses is facing various inefficiencies. Whereas, by the implementation of wireless technologies within the healthcare ...
