Introduction

Equality is one of the most important elements of American society, which is evident in its Constitution. The laws of American society strictly restrict inequality among the members of society, which is one of the most critical issues in the practical realm. The equal protection under the law is immensely crucial and effective in many of the aspects of practical life. These aspects are also the critical issues in the American society, which is essentially required to be resolved. The first important aspect is the social discrimination against the minors or any of the race, religion, or culture, which occurs in the specific neighborhoods or regions in the American society. The second important aspect is the corporate domain of the society, in which discrimination causing unemployment in the society. The third point is the demonstration of power through cultural practices within a diversified society, which breaches the rights of minors in that society. Lastly, the forth point is the unequal justice or conduct in the society by the law enforcement agencies or authority personnel (Mack, 2005). All of these issues are associated with the issue of equality, which mainly promotes discrimination in the society. However, the appropriate implementation of the equal protection under law or equal protection clause can better the problems of discrimination in the society on every level.

Equal Protection under Law

The equal protection under law is precisely focused on the implications of the Fourteenth Amendment to the United States Constitution. It states that “All persons born or naturalized in the United States, and subject to the jurisdiction thereof, are citizens of the United States and of the State wherein they reside. No State shall make or enforce any law which shall abridge the privileges or immunities of citizens of the United States; nor shall any State deprive any person of life, liberty, or property, without due process of law; nor deny to any person within its jurisdiction the equal protection of the laws” (Ivers, 2013). The last sentence of the Fourteenth Amendment is known as the equal protection clause, which strictly prohibits the authorities to abuse their power by restricting the rights of any individual of society. This amendment directly illuminates the legality of equality among all of the members of society even in the implementation of all the laws and policies (Epstein, 2005).

The practical implications of this Amendment is significant in reducing and even eliminating the problems of discrimination, which are directly linked with the in sufficiency of equality in treating the members of society. It is essentially important for a democratic land to treat all of its citizens equally and provide them with equal rights. It is entailed by the importance of equal protection under law, which practically justifies the importance of equality in the society.
