Introduction

Nottingham is a town in Britain, passionately known as the "Queen of the Midlands". It is popular for its links with the world-renowned tale of Robin Hood. Nottingham is one of three significant places in the Eastern Midlands of Britain, the other being close by Leicester and Derby. During the Industrial revolution, it acquired global acknowledgement for its lace-making and bicycle sectors. It was provided its city charter as part of the Precious Diamond Jubilee celebrations of Queen Victoria in 1897 and has since been basically called the City of Nottingham ("A brief A-Z of Nottingham").

Nottingham is home to lots of different architectural designs, with structures dating from the 1100s. Architects such as Alfred Waterhouse, Thomas Chambers Hine and Nottingham's own Watson Fothergill created complex structures in the 1800s to meet the development created by improving industrial result ("Overseas Visitors to the UK - Top Towns Visited 2005").

The local center of Nottingham is usually identified as the Old Market Square, the biggest city square in the UK. The square is covered with the Council House, which changed The Nottingham Exchange Building, designed in 1726. The Council House was designed in the 1920s to screen social pride, ostentatiously using baroque content and putting rock sculptures of two lions at the front to stand watch over the square. The Exchange Arcade, on the beginning, is an upmarket shopping center containing high-end stores. Portland Stone was used to create the Council House and Exchange Arcade ("A brief A-Z of Nottingham").

Nottingham has all the modern amenities and attractions that are wonderfully suited for tourists to come and indulge in experiencing the modern yet a historic city, from great shopping centers and markets to wonderfully built sporting attractions and facilities to old and historic buildings and architecture to top notch hotel and accommodation facilities; Nottingham has everything a tourist would want to experience with a culturally rich history.

Accessible tourism is the continuous practice to ensure holiday locations, goods and services are open to all people, regardless of their physical restrictions, disabilities or age. It involves publicly and privately operated tourist locations. The term has been defined as:

Accessible tourism enables individuals with accessibility requirements, such as flexibility, perspective, hearing and mental dimensions of accessibility, to function separately and with a guarantee and pride through the delivery of globally designed tourist products, services and conditions. This definition is comprehensive of all individuals such as those visiting with children in prams, individuals with disabilities and elderly people (Cheetham, 1973).

Accessing Nottingham is not a problem, since anything one needs is easily available in Nottingham. This is the greatest part of visiting a metropolitan city. There is an international airport located in the city of Nottingham, which is used by many of the tourists to access Nottingham as a tourist destination.
