Nursing Management: Mental Health

Introduction

Management of nursing in mental health can be easily described as engaging oneself in helping and development of such people who are in need to get control over their lives and can recover their mental capability. The government is strongly supported the evidence based mental health nursing practices concept through establishing policies, which has come forward from different professionals and clinical records. The argument which tends to be strongest is that, patients have the right to treat with proven efficacy for the provision of evidence based mental health care.

The essay will shadow the light on one benefit in mental health nursing through considering both of the theoretical concepts, the clinical past as well as professional experience. The intervention chosen is counselling, and the focus of the clinical link is counselling for eating disorders. Eating disorders may be very suitable for treatment with counselling due to the nature of the disorders, as ongoing conditions with constant risk are declining.

The concept or process of counselling is not defined by the prose, and it appears to encompass a range of theoretical, philosophical and practical approach to interpersonal support aimed at achieving symptom reduction or health status improvement.

Discussion

The movement of psychiatric nursing towards encompassing both crisis management and long term rehabilitation demands a range of interventions which can support a rehabilitative approach. a starting point should be the understand the nature of the individual's condition and then consider how they can be helped on their individual journey towards recovery, while mental health practitioners are accustomed to thinking about the experience of people with mental health problems in terms of their need for different types of intervention and services. It is only when one understands the condition that one can ensure that the needs of the client are being met. However, it is also important to be aware of the parameters and choices which are available for therapeutic intervention in mental health and illness(Kozier, et.al, 2009).

The choice of primary psychotherapeutic approach in mental illness is prejudiced by a number of factors, including the knowledge and theoretical preference of the nurse, the condition, diagnosis and prior treatment and the needs of the client. During the course of clinical practice, this is viewed in relation to one nurse-patient therapeutic dyad observed. In this situation, the client suffers from an eating disorder, and the nurse has been engaged in treatment for this disorder with the client over some weeks. Person-centred counselling was something that the client's lead nurse had had years of experience in providing, and was the approach she was most comfortable with. Recovery is not an end point, but a state of what can be described as negotiation with the condition to achieve functionality for that individual. In order to move the client towards a state of recovery, the therapeutic relationship needed to be initiated and maintained by that nurse within their own frame of reference.
