Introduction with thesis

Various theories need to be studied for understanding the complex nature of the peoples approach to problem solving in their daily practical life and in relation to eth academic solution. Of the various different theories, the most important ones related to academic education are the transfer of learning and the gestalt approach as they go on to focus very much on issues that are related to academic education.

Discussion

The main purpose of education is preparing the student for their future life and also for the unknown challenges that await them in the shape of real life problems. Problem solving in psychology is used to state the aspiration of wanting to reach a definite objective from the current situation that is either not conducive in moving towards the objective, would be far away from it, or is in the need of a more complex logic for discerning the missing description of conditions or steps towards the goal. In the field of psychology, problem solving in daily life comes out to be the process which is inclusive of problem finding and problem shaping (Ranyard & Crozier & Svenson, 1997).

Among the various intellectual; functions, problem solving is termed as being a higher order cognitive process which needs the modulations and control of the main skills that are routine. There are two major domains of problem solving. One is the mathematical problem solving and the other is the personal problem solving. There are some difficulties in solving the second problem. The problem solving occurs as you move from a given state to a desired goal state. Problem, solving has always been there from the beginning. The history of mathematics and the various nature of problem solving processes have been studied in detail by psychologist over the past century. Some of the methods of studying the problem solving are simulation, behaviorism, experiment and computer modeling. Recently, the social psychologist have distinguished between two types of problem solving processes which they have termed as being independent and interdependent problem solving (Ranyard & Crozier & Svenson, 1997).

Skills like the critical thinking skill or the analytical skill help a person evaluating the problem and taking decisions to solve that problem. At times, the best way is adopting a logical and methodical approach. While at other times, an individual may need to use creative or lateral thinking to come up with ideas for solving the problem and finding fresh approaches in daily life. To most of the people it appears that they are adopting the correct approach to problem solving because they regard it as being rational and justified. There are various theories that help in understanding problem solving related to academic in daily life (Manktelow, 1999).

The Gestalt approach

This approach used by the Gestalt psychologist argues that the process of problem solving is a productive process. Specifically, individuals when they are in the process of discerning a problem, at times restructure their representation of the problem. This leads to a flash of insight that helps them ...
