One-child policy of China

Introduction

One-Child policy of China is the population control policy imposed by the People's Republic of China. For the urban couples, they can have only one child. According to a survey, 35.9% of the couples are under the policy restriction. From this policy, only the administrative regions of Hong Kong and Macau are exempted including the foreigners residing in China. The following paper discusses the impacts of the policy in the region and how the policy was thought to be associated with personality differences in children because of the imposition of a one-child policy.

Discussion

The population of China is around 1.3 billion that includes working families who are trying to build a good life. It was imagined that Chinese people live under the roof one multiple generations, but this has changed. Today, the family consists of one child accompanied by the parents known as a core family (Morelle, 2013). Here, this is reflected that the Chinese government is today intervening in the structures of the families. National Population and Family Planning Commission of China is an agency responsible for looking at the population growth and reproductive background of a family across all States. For this, the agency also organizes various educational programs and supervises the couples in this regard (Morelle, 2013).

The policy is under stress and concern lately after the earthquake which destroyed 10,000 children in 2008. Because of the presence of a one-child policy, families lost their only child and were saved from more grievances. However, with the devastations created and the destroyed families, the agency has allowed the families to have another child legally in order for these families to have a great and prosperous life (Morelle, 2013).
