Many researchers have been studying the attitudes of correctional employees within jail to assess the organization's culture as a whole. Various aspects and attitudes have been studied such as job satisfaction, employee retention, employees' burnout, forcefully making certain tasks done, objectives of career, and stress. Many researchers have researched about the support and cooperation provided by correctional staff to each other with respect to psychoanalysis of programs. Results have revealed that female employees, old age employees, minorities with respect to race are the ones that favored and supported their co workers, treated them well and participated in rehabilitation programs as compared to male employees, young age employees and whites.

Poor attitudes among correctional staff

Correctional staff plays a vital role in the working environment of a jail and have a significant impact on the psychological health of all prisoners. The base of discipline in a jail is relies on their attitude with each other and with prisoners. Correctional staff should ideally provide adequate level of support and guidance to the prisoners with respect to day to day activities and shaping their moral character in the jail. If this particular staff exhibit favoritism on the basis of race or color or do discrimination among all employees then it can lead to a serious quarrel or disciplinary situation within jail. Jail should be a place where these prisoners are kept for character building and shaping their minds with respect to all crimes that they have done in past rather than a place where they learn to discriminate and create unfair situations for others.

It has also been studied that favoring psychoanalysis is also dependant on the type and level of job. This fact is applied in case of correctional employees more particularly as compared to non correctional employees. More evidently it was witnessed that clerks and treatment employees' showed more support and care for human related services and rehabilitation services. On the other hand, the correctional employees were found to be favoring and applying punishment related attitudes and did not favor or comprehend the positive side of rehabilitation.

When analyzing the administration oriented job category including labor related jobs, it was found that the correctional employees showed lower supporting behavior for prisoner rehabilitation and were found to be more in favor of penalizing attitude. On the other hand, the same category of jobs within the health care settings and associated supervisors and managers exhibited support and care towards prisoners. The research conducted by the department of correction in Pennsylvania revealed that employees that have been hired newly and clerks favored the treatment programs as compared to correctional employees that resulted in a positive effect on the prisoners. It was found that the supporting behaviors among employees and a good level of communication results in powerful and strong effects of correctional activities (Antonio., Young and Wingeard, n.d.).
