Operations Management

Introduction

The aim of the paper is to discuss the theories of operations management. The paper is highlighting the application of theories in the manufacturing plant of the companies. The paper is specifically discussing the operational process of Coca Cola. Moreover, the paper enlightens the key performance objectives of the company in order to satisfy its customers. The paper elaborates the process layout of the manufacturing plant of the company.

Methodology

Bottle neck theory

The bottle neck theory of the operation management aims to extricate the affect on the productivity level of the organization when a certain part of the organization performs at a low rate as compared to the other parts of the organization. Organizations attempt to employ bottle neck theory of operation management in order to enhance the efficiency of the business.

Explanation

Bottle neck theory is applicable in the process of sequential manufacturing. It highlights why one of the units is performing at lower rates than the remaining units. For instance, if an operations process of a certain product involves three units. Then the bottle neck theory will determine either all off the units are performing at the same rate one of them is performing at a lower rate.

Consequences

Bottle neck has appalling consequences on the business. If an operation process in going on with the involvement of bottle neck it mean one of this unit in not utilizing its capacity or this unit might not getting adequate inputs in order to utilize the capacity to keep the pace of the remaining units of the business. Under such circumstances, the remaining units have to forcefully slow down their process because the subsequent unit does not have capacity to complement the process flow. Hence, it damages the efficiency of the business.

Identification

It is crucial to identify the root of the bottle neck in the manufacturing process. For this purpose, it is necessary to examine the performance of each and every subsequent. The subsequence that is performing below than the desired level is the root of the bottle neck and that particular subsequence is damaging the overall efficiency of the business. However, it is important to consider the fact that in a manufacturing process, two or more bottle necks can exists especially when the manufacturing system is complex.

Elucidation strategies

The issue of having a bottle neck in a manufacturing process can be resolved by attempting to bring a balance in the input distribution among all the subsequent. Sometimes it is required to provide more equipments and labor to a particular subsequent in order to increase its production to bring it in the same track. However, under some specific circumstances it is not possible to increase the inputs if one unit then the subsequent units have to slow down their processes ...
