OPM300 - Introduction to Operations Management

Total number of days required to complete the project are 213 days or almost 42 weeks (5 days a week) i.e. the project shall start from 8th October 8, 2013 and ends on 9th May, 2014.

Activities needs to Crashed

Following are the activities that needs to be crashed i.e. Activity A, B, C and T. The reason for crashing these activities is that they are critical activities of the whole project i.e. majority of the activities depends on these 4 activities. Crashing these activities would certainly put a significant impact i.e. the project which was planned to be completed in 213 days will complete in 155 days which exactly 31 weeks. So, crashing the above activities will save almost 9 weeks. The MS project Diagram has been shown below:

Now, Activity 'B' originally needs 3 weeks to get completed, but if unfortunately it takes 5 weeks to get completed then the project which was planned to completed in 213 days without crashing will take 224 days i.e. the project shall from 8th October 8, 2013 and ends on 20th May, 2014 (Almost 45 weeks and each week will have 5 days).

Activity 'B' i.e. “Select local Printer” is considered as the most critical activity in the whole project because 5 activities in the project out of 26 depend on this Item. It needs to be crashed completely and will certainly put a significant change in the completion of the project on schedule. Other activities like A, C and T are also critical but the cheapest and vital activity of the project is 'B'. The above analysis have also shown that crashing the above activities have reduced the project completion time to almost 72% of the total time. In this project, various ...
