Organic Food: Safer, Certified & Healthier Diet

Introduction

This is the question that all eco-consumers do but to which no one can taste better or healthier. Just ask anyone involved in health and nutrition, and you will not get answer. Going to the supermarket to buy groceries used to be very straightforward. All the produce was bright with color, fresh and beckoning to be eaten. There was not a thought of whether it was healthy to eat or not. Prices were reasonable and a good bit of produce came from your local farms. Today, there have been tremendous changes on how we get our produce, and how produce is grown. Many products available to are now grown in other countries and shipped into the U.S. not our local farmers. The production of produce conventionally requires the use of fertilizers and pesticides, hormones and antibiotics (Heller, 2013). Organic farming utilizes crop rotation, real manure compost and biological pest control. Organic is grown using fertilizers and pesticides but in the natural sense, they do not use manufactured fertilizers or pesticides that would use herbicides or insecticides (The Spartan Diet, 2011). Without the use of chemicals, organic farming is more labor intensive that serves to help water and soil conservation.

Although, Organic food cost more than conventional food it is certified to inform you how your food is grown and handled from farm to store, giving you knowledge to promote your health over ingesting products that weaken our bodies (Pollan, 2007). This paper aims to discuss and argue about whether organic food is healthy and safer to eat or not. We have analyzed the term organic food with the support of the USDA industrial organic and industrial farming in the use of insecticides, pesticides contamination of the soil, time and distance of shipping then finish with a conclusion support organic farming (USDA, n.d).

Discussion

Organic products, free from pesticides and chemicals, we provide a double benefit: protect our health and at the same time respect the environment. Here is the guide to avoid mistakes. The procedure for the certification of organic products is too complex, say the manufacturers, just an infiltration from a nearby field to get or not to deal revoked, but who does an honest job and knows how to grow its apples just this, without the need for certificates.
